Early Childhood Videos
The average age for receiving an autism diagnosis in the UK is 5 years. However, parents are often aware of and have identified social, communication and behavioural difficulties as early as 2 years of age.
The Kennedy Krieger Institute Centre for Autism developed a video tutorial on ASD behavioural signs in one-year-olds. The researcher Dr. Rebecca Landa compared toddlers who show no signs of ASD to toddlers who show early signs of ASD. Each video illustrates behaviours commonly seen in a typical child and a child with ASD.
There are additional autism checklists that parents can use to recognise the early signs of autism in childhood. For more information visit the Autism Checklist page and the Red Flags for Autism in children page.
